Employment Pathway

Age: 19
Learning Journey
I realised that IT was crucial to all workplaces and that it seemed to be growing, which is why I decided that IT was the career for me. My parents were very supportive and gave me good advice, while at the same time allowing me the independence to make up my own mind. While I was studying for my GCSEs I joined the junior Intermediate Labour Market programme. This gave me a great insight into the world of work, so that I was well prepared for workplace expectations.
What do you enjoy about your pathway?
I enjoyed all aspects of my apprenticeship as it was relevant to my working world. I am now employed and my job is really interesting. I work as part of a team and I particularly like the variation in our work projects, and every day is busy with demanding deadlines.
Would you recommend this pathway?
Yes. Anyone who enjoys seeing the relevance, context and benefits of what they are learning should consider an apprenticeship.
What would you like to do next in your learning journey?
I would like to study for a Higher National Diploma in IT or a related subject and then a part-time degree. Lifelong learning and gaining qualifications are part of personal development.
What is your career ambition?
I would like to gain more experience in my present role but, looking to the future, I would be looking towards opportunities in management and leadership.
